Hello . The water turtle suffers from recurrent abscess. The abscess is near the right middle ear. It has happened before and drained another clinical abscess without anesthesia. Now it has been repeated and I am in favor of taking anesthesia. I will administer gas anesthetic isoflurane. What should my procedure be? Do I need stitches after removing the abscess? Should I close it seamless? Are there any antibiotics you would recommend?

Isoflurane has no pain-killing properties, so local anaesthetic is needed at least (then this procedure can actually be done without anaesthesia). No sutures necessary, you just cut open the seam of the caudo-ventral part of the ear drum and let if flap back into place afterwards. Keep the turtle out of water until healed (couple of days).
Since it is a recurring problem, make sure you remove the entire capsula of the abscess, flush well (checking the inside of mouth while doing so) with NaCl, or it will come back, if you neglect to get rid of everything, and find out what causes the abscess. Often it is a husbandry issue. Hypovitaminosis A is a possibility , so find out what food they are getting.
